From 16th-18th September, 2024, we had the incredible opportunity to join forces between MSCA SE CardioSCOPE and COST Action AtheroNET, bringing the latest advances in omics research to the next generation of scientists through a dedicated trainingschool organized in beautiful Heraklion, Crete. This event featured a comprehensive program, including lectures and hands-on training, aimed at equipping 38 participants from across Europe with cutting-edge skills.
We were thrilled to welcome participants from various EU countries: Armenia, Belgium, Finland, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, UK. The diversity and enthusiasm of our attendees made the experience truly special!
The program featured insightful lectures on gene regulation and multiomics by experts like Dimitris Kardassis, Ljubica Matic (Karolinska Institute Vascular Surgery Interest Group), Miron Sopic, Christos Tsatsanis and Matthew Vella Refalo, but the highlights were the hands-on sessions, where participants gained practical experience with bioinformatics tools for RNA seq analysis and machine learning approaches led by Matthew Vella Refalo, Vasso Theodorou, Marco Chierici.
Outside the classroom, the social activities were truly memorable! Whether it was exploring the city of Heraklion, visiting the ancient site of Knossos, or sharing lively conversations over dinners, we had a fantastic time bonding beyond the lectures. These moments created a strong sense of community and gave participants the chance to form meaningful international connections that will no doubt benefit their future careers.
